Mt Asama

New hike up on the blog for Mt Asama, an active volcano in Karuizawa, Nagano. To be honest this mountain hadn’t been in my 2026 hiking plans because it’d been stuck at a “Level 2” for possible volcanic eruptions for the past 3 years. But this past week it dropped back down to a Level 1 (yay) so I went to go check it out.
And it was such a good mountain!! I have a soft spot for volcanic mountains, and I also love mountains where you can see the entirety of the peak on your approach, so this was a 10/10 mountain for me.
