Streaked shearwater

オオミズナギドリ

1 sighting

There are two quite similar birds the wedge-tailed and streaked shearwaters. However it seems the streaked one is more common in Izu, and the biggest breeding colony in the world is on Mikurajima, an island off the Izu coast. Which seems to be having a huge feral cat problem as well.

Initially thought it was another black-tailed gull, but on closer inspection it looked quite different - skimming low over the water.
