Tsukemen gonokami seishakujo is a little tsukemen place a short walk from Shinjuku station. I find Shinjuku to be a little too crowded for my tastes, but this shop is tucked away on a quiet residential street which is more my speed.
For those that are not familiar, tsukemen is an alternative form of ramen where the noodles and broth are served separately. The broth is much more concentrated and you use it as a dipping sauce. I like my ramen on the saltier side anyway, so I love tsukemen!
This shop in particular serves a unique variety of tsukemen with a prawn broth, and they have tomato broth options as well.
Although it’s a little hidden away make no mistake this place is quite popular, so if you try and come by on a weekend, expect a long line. We stopped by just before 6pm on a Thursday, and got in without having to line up. However by the time we left at 6:45pm, there were at least 10 groups of people waiting outside, so coming just an hour earlier really makes all the difference.
As for the tsukemen itself - it tastes so good! The most basic option only costs 1100 yen, so it’s a pretty reasonable price as well. There are options to add toppings, etc. which can bump the price towards 1700.
To visit Tsukemen gonokami seishakujo, if you are coming via Shinjuku station I recommend exiting via the South exit. The shop is only a couple of minutes walk past the Takashimaya department store building.
