I was quite chuffed the first time I spotted a blue rock thrush in Enoshima - I hadn’t seen one before. Since then though I have seen them at various spots so they are quite a common bird.

A male blue rock thrush I spotted near the end of my hike to Mt Iwadono - much more striking than the female with its blue and orange plumage.

It seemed surprisingly tame to humans as it hopped towards us - but I realised then its prime target was a bug, which it snached up in its beak and flew off. Luckily I managed to get a picture of it.
